The aim of the English curriculum is to enable students to understand and use language effectively, and to take their place as confident communicators, critical and imaginative thinkers and informed and responsible participants in the world.
The syllabus content is organised across nine outcomes;

- writing and representing
- handwriting and using digital technologies
- reading and viewing
- spelling
- responding and composing
- grammar, punctuation and vocabulary
- thinking imaginatively, creatively, interpretively and critically
- expressing themselves
- reflecting on learning.
Through responding to and composing a wide range of texts and through the close study of quality texts, students will develop knowledge, understanding and skills in order to meet these outcomes.
